Julia and Elijah’s wedding at The Bower in Edmond, Oklahoma was the kind of event we’ll be dreaming about for years to come. An exquisite floral Monique L’Huillier gown, a feminine pink and green color palette, artisan details, lush florals, white parasols, and a European venue.

I’ve asked Julia, the beautiful bride, to give us some insight into her and Elijah’s love story, as well as thoughts about their wedding day. My interview with her follows. I’ve also asked Lauren of Hello Events, the wedding planner for this amazing event, to tell us more about the wedding design and coordination required to make this wedding one we’ll never forget.

My Interviews with Julia, The Bride and Lauren, The Wedding Planner

Leslee: How did you meet and fall in love?

Julia: Elijah and I first met in Elementary School in Moore Oklahoma. I had a crush on him from when I first saw him in 4th grade, as crazy as that sounds. We met again sophomore year of high school. He took me on a first date to the movies. We both thought it went perfectly and haven’t really been apart since. In college was when we seriously started talking about our future together. It’s cliche, but we fall in love everyday and feel like our love has matured over the past 6 years. 

Elijah says he fell in love with my sense of humor and originality – lol! He had a list of goals on his door during high school, and the number one goal was “ask Julia out.”

All About The Wedding Design

Leslee: Tell us about your wedding design – why did you choose your venue and your different design elements?

Julia: I chose the Bower because of a couple of reasons. First, it was more unique from other venues simply because it was so new. I really wanted an out-of-Oklahoma feel, which I think it exuded. I also loved the gardens! I love natural florals and bodies of water!

I wanted everything to be unique and feel like me! I loved the pink and green colors (two of my favorites and not typically put together). I wanted everything to feel warm and bright, which is why we included the cute lamps on the tables, the bright checkered dance floor, and the beautiful bar settings! We included the dogs on the escort cards as a nod to Elijah! He loves dogs, and the golden doodle and Doberman were our dogs who recently passed. My favorite “design” element was actually my dress, which I felt like tied everything together!

I asked Lauren Corp, Owner and Creative Director of Hello Events, about the wedding design, too. Here’s what she had to say.

Leslee: Lauren, what were the most personalized and unique aspects of the design you created for Julia and Elijah?

Lauren: We incorporated the pattern on Julia’s Monique L’huillier gown into their custom save the dates and invitation suites. We used the dress pattern again for subtle background pieces such as couple’s stage backline, and their seating chart installation. Julia and Elijah also have a shared love for dogs. As a surprise to Elijah, illustrated images of his favorite dog breeds were displayed on the guest escort cards.

Leslee: How did you make Julia and Elijah’s vision come to life so beautifully?

Lauren: A huge part of my job is understanding the style of my bride and what the desired outcome needs to actually look like and feel like on her wedding day. I was very mindful to assemble the right vendor team who understood how I operate as a planner / designer, were capable of bringing the design to life with excellence, and would invest time getting to know and appreciate Julia, as well!

The Bride’s Favorite Wedding Memories

Leslee: What are your favorite memories from your wedding day? 

Julia: Our favorite memory was dancing on stage at the end of the night! We both love dancing and spending time with friends, and I don’t mind being the center of attention sometimes (: ! I also loved being fed macaroni & cheese balls throughout the day – lol! We loved visiting with everyone. I loved the big dress reveal to my bridesmaids. Our first and final dances were wonderful, and the speeches were beautiful, each in their own way. 

Is Wedding Videography Worth It?

Leslee: What would you say to couples who are on the fence about hiring a videographer?  Is there anything you specifically liked about working with me and my team?

Julia: The right videographer will respect your space and time while still capturing the best day of your life. They are some of the most hardworking people on that day, and make it their mission to film the most important pieces, study your essence, and ultimately create something that will last for a lifetime. It’s always worth the money to have all of these memories because the day will fly by. Literally, hours will feel like minutes. I can’t wait to see my wedding video from a different perspective and be able to relive all the special moments and enjoy the design and aesthetic that went into the whole day.

I specifically enjoyed Leslee’s team because they respected my wishes during our intimate vows, made sure that I felt comfortable during the day, and were a comforting presence during a somewhat stressful and fast-paced day! Leslee was very attentive before, during, and after the wedding day and made sure to follow up quickly when necessary! 

I asked Lauren about her advice to couples who are trying to decide whether or not to include videography in their wedding budget.

Lauren: Do it! Your wedding day goes by quickly, and each moment is incredibly special. The right videographer understands the significance of what the wedding day means to their couples, and has the ability to memorialize those moments for them in a way that no other vendor can. Watching your wedding film is like having a front row seat to your own wedding! I’ve never met a bride or groom who didn’t want to be guests at their own wedding.
